FAQ

NervousFeeling nervous or apprehensive about making the call?

I completely understand! It’s hard enough for us to recognize and process our own feelings and anxieties let alone to share them with someone else.  The very idea makes many people feel vulnerable and exposed. Two things that most of us spend much of our time trying to avoid. However, I can assure you that taking the brave step forward in attempting to address your current difficulties is a far better option then allowing them to continue into another day. You are not your difficulties! To make change possible, action is necessary! Making the call is the first step in reclaiming the power and control in your life.

Not sure who to call?

The client-counselor relationship is essential to client success. Therefore, ensuring that you feel Call??comfortable and at ease with the person you call is the first step in finding the right client-counselor fit. Client success is my ultimate goal; therefore, I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to ensure that this is the right fit for you.

Do you accept insurance?

Touchstone Counseling does not bill insurance companies, managed care, or third-party payers. Touchstone Counseling operates on a fee for service basis. Payment in full is required at the time of service. Receipts are provided.
I believe the decision to seek counseling is a personal one. The information discussed between counselor and client is confidential and should remain between counselor and client. When a client chooses to submit a claim to an insurance company, managed care, or other third-party payer, these entities are given information that they request regarding services to the client. Information that may be requested includes: type of services, dates/times of services, diagnosis, treatment plans, description of impairment, progress of therapy, and summaries. It is for that reason that I do not accept insurance.

Questions 2What should I expect during my first visit?

During our first visit we will discuss current difficulties, review paperwork and begin discussing treatment goals. If paperwork has not been filled out prior to your first appointment please arrive 20 minutes early to complete forms. Having completed forms before our first session allows us more time to focus on beginning the process of moving forward.

How do I know it this will work?

Forward momentum and client progress is really important to a positive outcome. While no practitioner can guarantee success, together we will create goals that are appropriate for your situation. Those goals will be the touchstone by which we will measure your individual progress together. I work hard to keep us on track and focused on the goals that have been set. Client success also has a lot to do with the amount of time and effort each individual is willing to contribute toward the process. I encourage you to keep an open mind and to remember that no problem is too big. Positive change is in your future.

What is the time commitment?

Sessions are typically either 45 minutes or 75 minutes in length. The duration and Timefrequency of sessions is fluid – discussed by both counselor and client but ultimately up to the client.

Do you offer or suggest any medication(s)?

I am a not a psychiatrist or medical doctor. If you are currently taking a prescription please note that therapy should not be used in lieu of your medication. All discussions of medicine, including usage, discontinuation and appropriate dosage should be between you and your medical care provider.
Together we will work on additional coping mechanisms and stress reduction techniques that partner well with or without medication. While I do not openly encourage the use of medicine for treatment of anxiety related issues I do respect the clients right to choose their own individual treatment plan.
